Free radicals are molecules with a free electron, making the molecule reactive and unstable. To stabilize the molecule, the electron takes electrons from other molecules. This chain reaction takes place in the body weakening the immune system leading to various infections, degenerative diseases and other problems including cancer and heart diseases. Free radical damage is basically linked to the aging process as well.

The body metabolizes nutrients to create energy for the body and this is when free radicals are formed in the body as well. Free radicals can help in many ways for example, destroying bacteria in the system and fighting off infectious diseases as well. However, when the amount of free radicals in our body exceeds the required amount, this is a dangerous sign as their uncontrolled amount can overwhelm the body. There are various reasons why free radicals increase in the system. These include radiation from a lot of exposure to the sun light, exposure to toxic substances, like chemicals pesticides, industrial and household products etc. other factors like air pollution, also contribute to the amount of free radicals in the body. foods that we eat and the water that we drink also contribute to the amount of free radicals in the body.

Antioxidants are basically naturally formed substances or compounds. Primary aim of the antioxidants is to minimize the damage occurring through free radicals. The major source of antioxidants is through eating good foods like grains, fruits and vegetables. However, our system is constantly producing free radicals and in that case, eating good foods does not produce sufficient amount of antioxidants to fight the free radicals. Supplements of the major nutrients can also be ingested to help promote antioxidants in the body. Our body is prone to infections and diseases if free radicals are not kept in check. In such a case, antioxidants can help, even in cases like cancer. The four major antioxidant nutrients are Vitamin A, C, E and Selenium. A number of formulas are available in health stores and drug stores that help form antioxidants in the body. These formulas are available in several forms even in dried powder form. Though several people doubt the benefit of this form, however, this powder can be very helpful in developing antioxidants in the body.

Alkaline water is the best way to save our body from free radicals as it helps build antioxidants. Alkaline water is ionized through a number of free electrons that combine with the unpaired electrons of the free radicals clearing out our body's free radicals. Drinking alkaline water is also beneficial if we are not taking a good diet since the free radicals get eliminated through it. Alkaline water has a double advantage. It helps get rid of free radicals as well as toxins. Water ionizers can be used for this purpose and there are several varieties available including counter top ionizers which can be used to create a source of active antioxidants in our body.

A good water ionizer can help in several ways. It helps reduce the amount of contaminants from the tap water. The filtered water is then passed through another chamber which is the electrolysis chamber. This helps the water gain an excess amount of electrons that helps the water become an active supply of antioxidants which can be used by the body to get rid of toxins and free radicals. When we drink ionized water, it can help our body get rid of toxins, become healthier and fight excess amount of free radicals as well!
